The Greater Works

Mrs. Hannon’s kindergarten class sat in shock in the cafeteria, as they witnessed the scene in front of them. A man dressed in green, wearing a mask came through the window and began talking to another teacher. “We need your help! Come quickly!” he said. “Not now, don’t you see, I’m in the middle of class; you’ll blow my cover.” “But your help is needed, there’s not much time. Let’s go!” And off the teacher ran with the man wearing a mask, dressed in green.

What if we were like superheroes?

John 14:12-14

"I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it."

What if the power that we possess gave us superhero ability?

I believe that the power that we have on the inside through the Holy Spirit gives us superhuman ability. In John 14: 12-14, Jesus promises us that we would do greater works than Him. That should we ask for anything in His name, according to His will, by way of the Holy Spirit, it will be done. So now the question is: why are we not seeing it as much or at all in our lives and in the lives of those that are connected to us?

It’s not that it’s not happening at all, but sometimes we have to look at the small picture in order to understand and fully grasp the bigger picture.

Take Abraham, for example. God showed him the stars and told him that these were the number of his descendants. But in order for the descendants to manifest in the earth realm through Abraham, Abraham first had to believe that God would do what He said He would do. That was Abraham’s greater work. That was Abraham’s superpower. He focused on the small thing and God took care of the rest.

What if our greater work involved:

a family member being delivered through your prayers, a generational curse being broken through your obedience to stay in your marriage, following through to complete a training or degree program, or having mustard seed faith when God reveals a thing to you? Did you know that you are the product of someone else’s greater work?

My friend, please do not despise your small beginnings. For without them, there would not be a place to start. If Jesus can take five loaves of bread and two fish, and stretch it to feed a multitude, why can’t we ask God to slow down the molding process so that our bread doesn’t mold until our next paycheck? Why don’t we ask God?

People of God, we have superhero ability!

The bible says that without Christ we can do nothing. Through Him all things are possible. So if this is truly the case and we say we have the spirit of God living on the inside of us, why aren’t our greater works in abundance? Beth Moore made the statement, “The bride of Christ is paralyzed by fear.” Makes sense to me. I evaluate my life and see times where I should have stepped out on faith and failed to, causing myself to revert back to an old way of thinking. All because I would not allow myself the opportunity to experience how God would meet the challenge.

When our theology intermingles with our reality, we become active participants in the greater works in our everyday lives. When our theology intermingles with our reality, our prayer life no longer becomes a religious act; it becomes a building block in our relationship with our God.

We are superheroes…because Jesus said so.
