It’s Just That Simple

I think too much. On many occasions, I think too far ahead. The latter gets me in the most trouble because when I start to look past the surface of what is being asked of me, I get easily overwhelmed. I don’t know if it’s a learned behavior or something genetic, I just know that it is something that I do more than I care too.

One day, as I was spending time with God, He gave me an assignment. At first, I was okay with the assignment until I got to thinking about the details. As you read this, you might be thinking: wrong move, don’t do it! Well my friend, I regret to inform you that I did, and it was not to my benefit either.

After upsetting myself with the unknown, I went back to God and shared with him my concerns and reservations. He led me to Romans 12:1-2 (Message)

“So here’s what I want you to do God helping you: take your everyday, ordinary life-your eating, sleeping, going-to-work and walking around life, and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him. Don’t become so well adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what He wants from you and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.“

In this scripture, there were a few things that jumped out at me. And still do today. First of all, there are instructions involved. Anytime we are given an assignment, God never just gives the assignment and leaves us to figure it out on our own, but He provides instructions to what it is that he has placed in our heart. He doesn’t want us to get comfortable where we are in our physical and spiritual lives. Our focus should be on Him, because He is the one who will provide the next best move. When God gives you something to do, it is never just for the person or people that you are doing it for; it is for you too. Through our everyday life, He changes us from the inside out.

It is just that simple. God has it all figured out, you just have to do exactly what the scripture says. He’s worked out all the details and knows what is to come and what will be avoided. So, no more worrying and thinking too far ahead unnecessarily.
